Corus Entertainment Cuts 43 TV Jobs, Shifts Alberta News Production to Toronto

Corus Entertainment has confirmed layoffs at Global News and Corus Radio, cutting local roles across the country, including Winnipeg host Ed Garcia and London's Morning Rush show. Unifor, which represents the affected television staff, said 43 unionized TV jobs were eliminated: 28 in Alberta, five in Winnipeg, three in the Maritimes, three in Ontario, two in British Columbia and two in Saskatoon.

Corus is centralizing Calgary and Edmonton Global News production into its Toronto hub, though the company said it will continue producing some local Alberta content. Corus cited declining advertising sales and rising debt as drivers of the restructuring.
