TSX Closes at Record High as Mining and Energy Shares Lead

Metal mining and energy shares pushed the Toronto benchmark to a new closing high, with gold's climb powering names like Agnico Eagle, Wheaton Precious Metals and Barrick.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed at a record 35,485.11 on Friday, up 0.3% and topping the previous high set July 15, 2026. The rally was led by materials and energy shares.

  • Materials stocks, which include metal mining companies, advanced 2.4% as gold prices rose about 1.3% - Energy shares also contributed to the day's gains - A softer U.S. dollar and technical buying helped support the advance - Miners including Agnico Eagle, Wheaton Precious Metals and Barrick have been among the top gainers during the gold-led rally seen this month
