TSX Slips as Middle East Fighting Sends Oil Prices Soaring

Brent crude jumped 9.6% after fighting disrupted tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, dragging Toronto and U.S. stocks lower.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 52.59 points to close at 35,252.72 on July 13, 2026, tracking a broader pullback in North American equity markets. U.S. stock markets also declined during the same session.

The move came as oil prices spiked on fighting in the Middle East. Brent crude jumped 9.6% to US$83.30 a barrel after the conflict disrupted tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil exports.
