TSX Closes at 35,305.31 as Consumer Stocks Extend Rally
Consumer stocks pushed the TSX to a second straight day of gains as investors awaited earnings season.
Canada's benchmark stock index closed higher on Friday, extending a rally from the prior session as consumer-focused stocks led the advance. The S&P/TSX Composite rose 104.86 points, or 0.30%, to finish at 35,305.31.
Gains were concentrated in the consumer cyclicals and non-cyclicals sectors. Allan Small of iA Private Wealth described the broader market as being in a "holding pattern" as investors await the start of corporate earnings season, while also keeping watch on the unresolved conflict between Washington and Tehran amid elevated commodity prices.
