Hammond Power Solutions

A North American manufacturer of dry-type transformers and power-quality products riding surging data-center and electrification demand.

The business

Hammond Power Solutions designs and manufactures dry-type and cast-resin transformers, power-quality products, and related magnetics used to control and distribute electrical power in industrial, commercial, data-center, renewable-energy, and infrastructure applications. It is one of the larger dedicated transformer makers in North America with a growing presence in India and, following recent M&A, Europe.

The company has been a direct beneficiary of powerful secular tailwinds: electrification, grid investment, reshoring of manufacturing, and above all the explosion in data-center construction, which requires large volumes of power-distribution equipment. Recent quarters showed record sales, up more than 40% year over year, led by U.S. and Mexican data-center demand.

Hammond completed the acquisition of AEG Power Solutions in mid-2026, extending its product range and geographic reach into power-electronics and European markets. Reported trailing earnings were down even as revenue surged, reflecting acquisition and integration costs and mix.

The moat

Specialized engineering, safety certifications, and long qualification cycles for transformers create meaningful barriers to new entrants.

Established North American manufacturing footprint and channel relationships position it well amid reshoring and grid-capex booms.

Custom-engineered products for demanding applications (data centers, renewables) command pricing power in a supply-constrained market.

Free cash flow yield & sustainable growth

Free cash flow yield : ≈1.9% (est.)Earnings yield from a ~52x P/E; premium growth multiple, so low FCF yield estimate.

Revenue growth has been exceptional, but reported earnings recently declined on a trailing basis due to acquisition-related and integration costs, so cash conversion bears watching as AEG is absorbed.

The growth runway from data centers, grid modernization, and reshoring is genuine and multi-year; the investment question is less about demand and more about whether current profitability and the elevated multiple are sustainable.

Valuation & what to watch

After a spectacular re-rating — the shares more than doubled over the trailing period — Hammond trades at a very high P/E in the low 50s. The market is capitalizing the data-center and electrification thesis aggressively and extrapolating strong growth well into the future.

At this multiple the stock is a momentum-and-growth vehicle, not a value name. It rewards continued record demand and successful AEG integration, but the valuation offers little protection if order growth cools or margins stay pressured.

Dividend

Pays a small dividend yielding well under 1%.

Risks & the bear case

  • A very high multiple leaves the stock exposed to any deceleration in data-center or electrification demand.
  • Integration of the AEG Power Solutions acquisition carries execution and margin risk.
  • Recent trailing earnings declined despite surging sales, raising cash-conversion questions.
  • Cyclical and project-driven order flow, plus input-cost and tariff exposure.

Verdict

A real beneficiary of the electrification and data-center super-cycle, but the stock has already priced in a great deal of that optimism at a low-50s P/E after doubling. Compelling narrative, demanding valuation. Suitable for growth investors with high risk tolerance; caution warranted on the entry price. Moderate conviction, high volatility.
